FAQ

Who and what is ‘The Sugar Lounge’?

The Sugar Lounge is focused on personal, convenient and affordable hair removal.  Our certified Alexandria Sugaring Professional in Vancouver knows what it’s like to be busy and not have much time for yourself.  Let us pamper you!

What is sugaring?

Sugaring is a natural, gentle and ancient form of epilation.  Hair is removed using a sugar paste that is applied by hand and removed using a special by-hand technique.  There is NEVER double dipping!

What are the benefits of sugaring compared to say waxing?

There are many benefits to sugaring!

Sugar paste is made from all natural ingredients – mainly sugar – so it’s a great chemical free alternative.

Sugar paste also naturally exfoliates the skin by only sticking to dead skin cells.

Sugar paste actually seeps into your hair follicles to help remove the hair so the hair can be as short as 1/8 of an inch!  The optimal time for epilation is when the hair is in its beginning stages of growth.

Removing hair at this stage can lead to faster permanency.

This seepage into the follicle also means that the hair is pulled in the direction of the hair growth when removed which for most clients makes it less painful than traditional waxing.

This means less hairs break during the process and that means less ingrown hairs.  Sugaring is sweet no matter which way you look at it!

What do I need to do before my session?

For best results make sure to shower the day of or before your appointment. Don’t use any creams or lotions that day and don’t exfoliate. Sugaring will exfoliate naturally for you.

Is there any kind of aftercare?

Yes. For the next 24 hours, you should avoid:

Scented lotions

Perfumes

Tanning

Deodorant (if you sugared your underarms)

Saunas or Steam Rooms

The gym (Sweating)

In between sessions make sure you exfoliate lightly and moisturise! This will help prevent those irritating ingrown hairs.

How long should my hair be?

1/4-1/2 of an inch is ideal.  If you’re not sure, a little long is better than too short.

Will it hurt as much as waxing?

Like anything else, every person is different. However, most find that sugaring is less painful than waxing. The first session or right after shaving is usually the worst. Maintenance sessions are less painful. We offer a great cream that can be applied 45 minutes before your appointment that helps numb the area.

When should I book my next appointment?

It will vary from person to person but we recommend coming in every three to six weeks. That way we maximize the amount of hair removed at the same time. If you have been sugaring for a while that number might change. You can ask your sugar expert at your session for their recommendation.

I need to cancel my appointment! What do I do?

Please call or email 48 hours in advance of your appointment so that we can offer your space to another client. Unfortunately, if we don’t get sufficient notice there will be a cancellation fee.

Should I tip? How much?

Tipping is fairly customary in the beauty industry but entirely at your discretion. Of course any tip will be received happily and with a smile.
